Nov. 1, 2022. Bajardo is a charming Ligurian village of medieval origin, the highest municipality in the Province of Imperia at 900 meters above sea level. We wish a happy All Saints’ Day with these beautiful images of theancient church of St. Nicholas in Bajardo.
A Romanesque church that has an ancient history but is unfortunately roofless from Feb. 23, 1887, the day when the town’s faithful gathered to celebrate Ash Wednesday were surprised by a terrible earthquake that caused the vault to collapse, killing 202 people. More than a century after this tragic event, still vivid in the memory of all citizens, however, the ancient church remains a fascinating place rich in history, with a breathtaking view of the Maritime Alps.
It is a unique setting, in which stone blends with a sweet meadow of daisies that serves as the floor of the ancient church in spring, while a wonderful blue sky moves those who look up for a moment.
The Old Church is now a place of meeting and culture, especially in summer when festivals, performances and concerts are organized.
